Objective:
The following objectives were outlined in the call for papers (FIFYA 158):
General Objective
To reflect and dialogue on the ethical and political dimensions of the Movement’s Popular Education proposal and its implications for international public action.
Specific Objectives
- To deepen the understanding of Fe y Alegría’s work from its transforming intentionality.
- To identify Fe y Alegría’s spheres of influence and ways of working to promote changes in values.
- Clarify the framework of principles, possible lines and features of Fe y Alegría’s action for the transformation of structures.
- To analyse ways of advancing in public action as a network ad intra and by establishing alliances.
The Congress:
It was used a method that combined both study and discussion, in all countries, of the Initial Working Document (Annex to FIFYA 161), and the elaboration of contributions supported by the guide of questions it has. The contributions from the countries, resulting from this stage, were then integrated by the Commission appointed for the task, made up by Luis Arancibia, Raquel Martín, Cristina Manzanedo, David Alonso and Lucía Rodríguez, all of them from Entreculturas-FyA Spain, with the advice of the Federation’s Board of Directors. They then produced the Basic Document that was worked on at the Congress.
The Document is structured in four parts. (a) Why Fe y Alegría should be an international actor and an awareness-raising agent, (b) Fe y Alegría and the change of values, (c) Fe y Alegría and the transformation of structures, and (d) Fe y Alegría and networking.
At the Congress, each of these topics was presented by panels made up of a member of the Commission, who was responsible for proposing the perspective and reflections of the Document, plus another member of Fe y Alegría and an external guest, to reinforce, complement or add new perspectives and reflections. Each theme was then worked on in groups based on a guide of questions and the conclusions were presented in a plenary.
